When is Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrated in 25-August-2017. This spectacular Ganesh Chturthi festival is celebrated for 11 days long for the birth of the Hindu elephant-headed Lord Ganesha. This is one of the most awaited festival of Moharashtra and the festival is popularly worshiped for his ability to remove problems and bring good fortune.

Where is Ganesh pooja it Celebrated? Mostly it is very popular in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka,Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Mumbai is the best places to experience the festival in India. Celebrations take place in a special way at the towering Siddhivinayak Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

How is it Celebrated? The festival begins with the installation of huge decorated statutes of Ganesha in homes and podiums. Artisans takes months of effort into making the statues of Ganesha. On Ananta Chaturdasi the statues are paraded through the streets, accompanied by dancing and music and finaly immersed in the ocean. In Mumbai alone, more than 2,00,000 statues are immersed each year!

What Rituals are Performed? After the statue of Lord Ganesh is installed, a ceremony is undertaken to invoke the holy presence into the statue. This ritual is called the 'Pranapratishhtha Pooja', during this a number of mantras are read. Offerings of sweets (Ladoo), flowers, rice, coconut, jaggery and coins are made to the Lord Ganesh. Prayers are offered to god every day during the festival. Every day temples devoted to Lord Ganesha by organizing special events and prayers.
