Why Krishna Jayanti Celebrates: Krishna jayanti falls in the month of August-September every year. The festival continues with Janmashtami falling during rainy season in India. According to Hindu Puranas, Krishna took birth to kill the evil king Kansa and free the people of Mathura and other nearby towns from his evil clutches. On this occasion homes and temples are beautifully decorated with different lights and flowers. Whole night long prayers are offered and religious hymns are sung in temples and homes. The priests chant holy mantra and bath the idol with Panchamrit (Gangajal, milk, ghee, curd, and honey). After this bath the idol of the infant Krishna is placed in a cradle. Devotional songs and dances mark the celebration of this festive occasion all over India. Foreign tourists are enjoyed this festival very much.
